Join the Spafford Area Historical Society for a spectacular summer tour of some of the most historic and impressive sites in the Finger Lakes area! Relax and enjoy the scenery as you travel through the beautiful Cayuga and Canadaigua Lake districts.
Our Sonnenberg visit coincides with peak garden bloom – and Rose Week at Sonnenberg!
Enjoy a guided tour of Sonnenberg Mansion and Gardens – a 52 acre historic site of restored gardens*, 15-room period Victorian mansion, exquisite conservatory and landscaped grounds. The site also features a gift shop of historic items, a plant shop and wine tasting. We’ll enjoy a garden-themed lunch! *Sonnenberg Gardens includes roses, Italian garden, secret garden, pansy garden, moonlight garden, rock garden, Japanese garden, blue & white garden & an old-fashioned garden. Then, it’s off to Geneva to tour Rose Hill Mansion, a National Historic Landmark considered one of the finest examples of Greek Revival Architecture in the US. Built in 1839, the mansion has 26 rooms, of which 21 are furnished in the then-popular Empire style. Great effort has been made to have as many furnishings as possible original to the house. Other pieces are original to the period with most dating from about 1820 to 1850, the height of the Empire Period. The Rose Hill facility includes mansion, carriage house, several other outbuildings, and extensive grounds highlighted by a beautiful boxwood garden. We’ll also have an Antique Shop Crawl along the way!
